SEO and Onpage Optimization Importance

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. It is the name of the algorithm or the program inbuilt in popular search engine servers like Google, Yahoo and Bing e.t.c. that helps them to deliver the results for the query being searched. The other definition of SEO says it is a technique to get your webpage on the top in the organic part of the search engine results for the desired keywords.

Aim behind in SEO:

  • Be focused to the topic or the keyword, don't deviate from the core topic
  • Write as much as possible about the keyword covering as many sub topics as possible

SEO is divided into two parts:

1) On-page optimization: In this we do all the changes within the webpage, it carries 10% weightage but can be easily scored.

2) Off-page Optimization: In this we get the ratings from the other websites and it is core part of the SEO hence it carries 90% weightage, regular day to day work is required to score well in off-page. At end of the day total SEO marks (On-page + Off-page) for the keyword typed is checked while ranking is computed.


SEO and Its Importance

STEP 1: Permalinks -> 5 Marks

URL: It stands for uniform resource locator and it is nothing but the address of the webpage. The very first thing that SEO program checks in the results in the address of the webpage to find what is the content about.If your website address is exactly like the keyword then getting top rank is very easily.

STEP 2: Title tag -> 5 Marks

Title of the webpage should be descriptive, the first 65 characters are read by the search engines and these are the words that should start with your keywords.

STEP 3: Meta Description Tag -> 4 Marks

The meta description tag should consists of not more than 50 words, any where between 30-50 words make a good meta description and note that the first 25 words (160 characters) of meta description should have your keywords.

STEP 4: Meta Keyword Tag -> 4 Marks

This tag should contain all the keywords that you are targeting separated by comma. There should be only 1 meta keyword tag per webpage.

STEP 5: Header Tags -> 4 Marks

The Header Tags <h1>, <h2>, <h3> of the webpage should always consists of the keywords that you are targeting. There should be only one h1 tag per page for better ranking how ever you can have more than one h2 and h3 tags.

STEP 6: Image ALternative Text Tag -> 3 Marks

This Image alternative text tag should always contain the keywords that you are targeting. Don't have the same image alternative tag for more than 1 image, use different text but see that it has the keywords that you are targeting.

STEP 7: Font Decoration Tag -> 3 Marks

If your webpage has font in Bold, Italic or Underline in any part of the text, see that they contain keywords that you are targeting.

STEP 8: Keyword Density -> 4 Marks

See that keyword density in the webpage is as high as possible and a minimum keyword density between 1% to 3% must be maintained for better ranking in search engines and the starting 20 words of your webpage must have these keywords.

STEP 9: Avoid using flash in the webpages as google cannot read flash in your website.

STEP 10: Avoid using pop-ups ads, sticky ads and ads in the header of your website.

STEP 11: - > 2 Marks

Every webpage must have a link to its related pages of the same site. Ideally there should be 5 such links at the bottom of the webpage content with the heading as 'Also read'. If possible see that the anchor text of the internal links to the site has the keywords that you are targeting.

STEP 12: -> 1 Mark

If you are using videos in your webpage, see the video is related to the content of your webpage. This will improve your visitors in YouTube as well, see that you change video alternatively text tag in html just like you have done for the image.

STEP 13: -> 1 Mark

Add social bookmarking icon in every webpage of your site.

STEP 14: -> 1 Mark

Don't create multiple pages with the same content in your website.

STEP 15: -> 3 Marks

The page load speed should be higher, that means your website should load in shortest spam of time.

STEP 16: GEO Tag -> No Marks

Recently the new tag is being added in the SEO called as Meta GEO Tag, meaning the geographic tag which is used for targeting the visitors from a specific region, combination of google research trends and GEO TAG can give fruitful results to you immediately.
