The Department of Labour Karnataka is one of the oldest Departments of Government which is carrying out the responsibility of labor welfare and maintenance of smooth industrial relations. The activities regarding enforcement of labor laws and promotion of industrial peace are simultaneously carried on, so that the twin objectives of industrial growth and labor welfare can be achieved. At the State level, the Department is headed by the Honorable Minister for Labour and he is assisted by the Principal Secretary. This Department has 4 sub-departments directly functioning under the control of the Honorable Minister for Labour. At official level, the Principal Secretary to Government, Labour Department, controls and co-ordinates the following 4 sub-Departments. i.e.

eKarmika is an Innovative program which has been implemented by the Karnataka Government for Registration and Renewal of Shops and Commercial Establishments Act, 1961; which is one of the State Labour Laws and Rules being enforced by the Department of Labour, Karnataka. The labor department enforces various laws in the state which requires citizens to interact with the department for various state and central Enactments. It covers following functions in the various departments.

Issuance & Renewal of Registration Certificate
Amendment new features in Registration Certificate
Issuance of Duplicate Registration Certificate
Filing of Annual Returns and Submission of Appeals
Exemption on weekly holiday for Shops and Establishments
Exemption for women working in night shift
