RPF is nothing but The Railway Protection Force which is a security force, established by an act of Railway Protection Force Act, at 1957; enacted by the Indian Parliament "for the better protection and security of railway property" as defined by the Railway act. The RPF objectives are defined below.
- The safeguard railway property and to combat crime against it
- The better protection and security of railway property by RPF members
- Remove any obstructions in the movement of railway property
- To perform other functions of an armed force of the Union and to exercise powers of a railway servant as conferred by or under the Indian Railways Act, 1890.
