Addressing the cropping and cropping related techniques to the farming community using TNAgrisnet or AgrisnetTN:

Agriculture is backbone of Indian Economy and major portion of population depends on farming. Prior, farmers are unaware of weather conditions, input subsidy information, crop insurance and new methods in cultivation. To increase the productivity with less capital and providing more information to farmers Government of India introduced central sector scheme called  " Strengthening / Promoting Agricultural Informatics & Communications" of which mostly popular and vastly used component called AGRISNET which is used by all state governments. The TamilNadu Government is implementing the same as TNAGRISNET.

AGRISNET Master Plan:
The Central Government under the programme of AGRISNET provide funds to the state/UT governments or to autonomous bodies identified by the State/Union Territory Governments based on the specific project designed for agricultural purpose. Using this funds TamilNadu Government is helping the farmers with project called TNAGRISNET or AgrisnetTN.

TNAGRISNET long term goals:

Vision: Show the methods for increasing productivity of crop and income of farmers through farm level intervention.

Mission: Shifting the focus from crop based to farm based and Govt. should show a mechanism to keep them informed on whatever they need, whenever they need and from wherever they need.

Organizational Goal: Government always deliver the services to farming community effectively and efficiently.

Training and Visit System: Educating the farmers on latest technology in Agriculture to increase the quality of production with less cost.

Genesis of Agricultural Information Services Network: Tamilnadu was the first state to collect the farmers database, Soil sample collection, analysis and making available and the test results online through Soil Health Cards.

Farm level intervention: The process identifies the resource base of the farm by collecting the Assets of the farm – mainly the factors of production Land and Water. After identifying the resources of the farm the climatic factors are taken into account. Based on the Soil, Source of Irrigation and Rainfall the villages were grouped into homogeneous Micro Agro-Climatic Zones.  During the process the input requirements like seeds, fertilizers, credit, etc., were also communicated to the farmers. This has facilitated the pre-positioning of quality inputs at the right place at the right time in right quantity.

Continuous Crop Health Monitoring using Android based Tablet PCs: All the field level staff for continuously monitoring the crop health in each and every farm using their 4G handsets.

Crop Doctor: It is a virtual extension and farmers can access the Touch Screen kiosks located at the Block Agricultural Extension Centers. Even Agricultural Extension person not available, they can very well match the symptoms with multiple options and get remedial measure in the form of a printed report.

Market Intelligence and Business Promotion Cell: Latest market price details are being sent to farmers so that the farmers can take sale decisions accordingly.
