Share:
Aim of TNPDS: Distributing basic food items to the needy sections of the society:

TNPDS is nothing but TamilNadu Public distribution system which is a state government sponsored chain of shops entrusted with the work of distributing basic food and non-food commodities to the needy sections of the society at very cheap prices. Items like Wheat, rice, kerosene, sugar, etc. are a few major commodities distributed by the public distribution system in TamilNadu. As we all know that Food Corporation of India, a government entity, manages the public distribution system in all states.
TNPDS

The Objective of TNPDS is to distribute food and non-food items to India's poor at subsidized rates. However, the food grains supplied by the ration shops are not enough to meet the consumption needs of the poor or are of lower quality. The average level of consumption of PDS seeds in India is only 1 kg per person per month. The system is often blamed for its inefficiency and rural-urban bias. It has not been able to fulfill the objective for which it was formed. Moreover, it has frequently been criticized for instances of corruption and black marketing.
