The company first developed a children's trivia game called That's A FAct JAck before developing you don't know jack. In 1995,the company renamed as jellyvision and developed first edition of you don't know Jack as a PC game originally and it became a huge success so they created a franchise, and jelly vision produced myriad installments of you don't know Jack from 1995 to 1998. As there is drastic development in technology and as the players opted out of computers to home consoles of the sixth generation, which created more demand from CD-ROM games.

The jelly vision also metamorphosed to capture the market as it invented console based versions of you don't know jack but all their efforts were invain. To sustain the company laidoff its staff from 75 to about 6 people to overcome their financial crisis. Jellyvision games gradually shutdown and the following year gottlieb launched a new company allied the Jellyvision Lab. They moved away from games and the jellyvision Lab focused on business software, and developed a new technology called "interactive conversation interface" inspired by the voice driven interface of you don't know jack. As the prior version you don't know jack series fans made these interactive conversation products a huge success.

As the human consoles have became outdated and players are extensively using networked consoles and mobile devices in 2008, so a Jellyvision games was relaunched as a subsidiary of the jellyvision lab,and they hired Mike Bilder to lead the studio. Later the studio developed a Facebook version game as a new trivia; and later, the game expanded to a standalone mobile application that allows data sharing and competition with the Facebook version. The studio re-branded as Jackbox Games and it would continue to focus on developing social games for current platforms including mobile devices and home entertainment devices. Later the company introduced unique feature that allows the game to be played using smartphones and tablets.
